Tips on How to Read a Donor Profile

Choosing a sperm donor is one of those decisions that shouldn’t be taken lightly. After all, this is something that will not only affect your lives, but the lives of all your future generations. The right donor will help you live your dreams of building a legacy and growing your family.

Each sperm donor is unique, and each donor profile will tell you everything you need to know about each of them. Here are some tips that will help you read the donor profiles so that you can find the best match:

Know What You Want

Before you dive in and start reading the profiles, you should have at least a vague idea of what you might want. Do you want to find traits that resemble your family? Do you need to stay away from certain medical conditions? Are you clear on which disclosure type you want to embrace?

If you need help understanding your options before you dive in, you should discuss this with your doctor or a counselor. Your goal is to find the donor that is the perfect match and knowing as much as you can will help this process go a lot smoother.

Understand the Disclosure Type

Here at Cascade Cryobank, we have two disclosure types to choose from. Note that we don’t allow anonymous donors at our facility. If you work with us, these are the choices:

  • Open ID. Open ID donors agree to be contacted after the donor conceived child turns a certain age.
  • Early Disclosure. This is a first of its kind program. Currently, we are the only ones doing it. In this disclosure type, the donor identity will be available as soon as a live birth is reported.

Which disclosure type do you want? This can help you narrow down your choices.

View the Medical History

Perhaps some of the most important information you could view on a donor profile is the medical history. Note that we go through an extensive prescreening process and if donors have certain medical conditions, we don’t even accept them into the program.

However, we don’t exclude everything, so you should view each profile carefully so that you know what to expect. Look at the personal medical history, family medical history, and any other piece of relevant information that could help you decide.

Select the Ideal Traits

Depending on what you want, the traits could also make a difference in which donor you select. You have two choices – you can either select a donor who has traits that resemble those in your family, or you can do something completely different. It’s totally up to you!

There’s no right or wrong way on which traits to select. However, if you think through the traits that are important to you before you start viewing profiles, it can help you narrow things down.

Other Information to Consider

There is also other information you can consider on our profiles, such as staff impressions of the donor, level of education, hobbies, passions, profession, and family life. Read each profile thoroughly so you can get a clear idea of what to expect when you make your selection.

Choosing a sperm donor can seem daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. Knowing how to read a donor profile really helps. Visit this page to view our donors – https://cascadecryobank.com/find-a-donor/
