Sperm donation is one of those things that has a chance to make a positive impact on families. Sure, you may be attracted to, at first, to make some money. There is financial compensation, but your impact goes far beyond the money. This is something that gives families the chance to build the families of their dreams in a way that extends past the normally programmed route. The reasons why someone may reach for sperm donation for this are varied. Either way, you have a chance to be part of that.
Have you decided that you want to donate sperm, or at least explore it as an option? Here’s a look at where you should start:
Discover If You’re Qualified
It is important to keep in mind that not everyone qualifies to donate sperm. Most sperm banks have strict rules, and these rules are similar industry-wide. Here’s a summary of our requirements here at Cascade Cryobank:
- Male – Aged 21-39
- Healthy – Active, disease-free, proportional height and weight
- Dedicated – Six-month commitment, 10-30 minutes a week
- Educated – Current college student or graduate, post-grad student, or working professional
- Employable – Able to work legally in the U.S
- Local – Live nearby our location in Lynnwood near Alderwood Mall
If you meet these requirements and donate with us, the next step would be to fill out an application.
Sperm Will Be Quarantined
Many donors don’t realize this, but your sperm needs to enter into a mandatory quarantine process before it can be used. First, the sperm is frozen, and then it’s isolated for a period of time. After it’s frozen and isolated, it goes through a period of testing where we look for infectious diseases, like HIV.
Yes, we have already put you and your sperm through a rigorous series of testing before you got accepted to become a sperm donor with us. However, things can change. Every sample you donate is tested for several months to ensure that it is safe to use. Your sperm will only be available to recipients and listed in our catalog if it passes this second round of tests.
You Won’t Have Legal or Financial Responsibility
Let’s say that your sperm is used and there has been a recorded live birth. Many sperm donors worry that if they donate, they will then have a legal or financial obligation to their donor conceived children. This simply isn’t the case. When you donate through a licensed sperm bank and follow all legal agreements, you are not considered the legal parent of any child conceived with your sperm. You won’t be responsible for child support or have parental rights.
Note that we don’t allow anonymous donors here at Cascade Cryobank. Through the OpenID program, the recipients are allowed to request your personal information. You can also opt into our Early Disclosure Program. However, nether OpenID nor Early Disclosure require you to have any legal or financial responsibility.
As you can see, there are som finer points to understand before becoming a donor, but it is a rewarding process for those who go through with it!
