So, you’ve been accepted to become a sperm donor. This means you’ve completed the application, passed the health screenings, and from there, that’s when we accepted you. The next step is to book an appointment and make your first donation.By this point, you’ve already gone through the most time-intensive parts of the process, so this visit will feel much more straightforward. Here’s what typically happens from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave.
Check-In Upon Arrival
When you arrive at the sperm bank, you’ll check in at the front desk. Since you’re already an approved donor, there’s minimal paperwork at this stage since you’ve likely already done most of it. It’s usually just a quick confirmation of your donor ID, your scheduled time, and the date of your last ejaculation.
Staff will also verify that you’ve followed any pre-donation guidelines. Please get in touch with us before your appointment for full instructions.
Making the Donation
A staff member will escort you to a private collection room. These rooms are designed for comfort and privacy, often with a locking door, comfortable seating, and materials to help with arousal if needed. Sterile collection cups and written instructions are always provided.
The staff will remind you of key requirements and also give you any necessary instructions.
-
Wash and dry your hands before collecting
-
Ensure the lid is securely closed after collection
-
Label the cup with your donor ID and time of collection
Sample is Sent for Processing
Your sample will go straight to the lab for processing. Since you’re already an approved donor, this isn’t a “test run”. Your donation will be evaluated for quality, then prepared for cryopreservation. This involves:
-
Measuring sperm count, motility, and morphology
-
Adding cryoprotectant to protect the cells during freezing
-
Dividing the sample into vials for long-term storage
Although we’ve already tested your health and sperm before getting accepted, we still need to do this part. In fact, the donations usually have to enter a “quarantine” period, as well.
End of the Appointment
After your first successful collection, you’ll meet briefly with the coordinator to confirm your ongoing donation schedule. Most sperm banks encourage a regular rhythm, for example, once or twice per week, to maintain supply and quality. You’ll also confirm your payment process and any ongoing donor requirements, such as periodic health check-ins.
Please check with us for details on what you need to do for next steps. Before you got accepted into the program, we reviewed with you the level of commitment we would like from you. So, you will simply check out and make your next appointment at this stage.
Your first donation appointment is quick, discreet, and highly professional. Since you’ve already completed all screening and approval steps, the visit is focused on making a high-quality sample and getting you set up for future donations. Many donors find that after the first visit, the process becomes routine. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.
