Who Can Donate Sperm? Our Qualifications and Process

Becoming a sperm donor is a meaningful way to help people grow their families. However, not everyone qualifies. Here at Cascade Cryobank, we have specific criteria in place to ensure the health, safety, and success of the donation process. Here’s more information on who qualifies to be a sperm donor and the process to go through:

Qualifications Needed to Become a Sperm Donor

Here at Cascade Cryobank, we have specific criteria for becoming a sperm donor. If you don’t meet these qualifications, don’t apply. You will automatically be turned away with no exceptions.

Age

Donors must be men between the ages of 21 and 39. This age range ensures that donors are at a stage of life where their sperm is of optimal quality for assisted reproductive therapy.

Health

Donors must be in excellent health. This means being active, disease-free, and having a proportional height-to-weight ratio. A clean medical history is essential, with no past illnesses other than common colds, flu, or seasonal allergies.

Dedication

Becoming a sperm donor requires commitment. Donors must be able to dedicate themselves to a 6-month program, with the ability to donate 10–30 minutes per week.

Education

Donors must have an educational or professional background. Eligible candidates include current college students, graduates, post-graduate students, or working professionals.

Employment

Donors must be legally employable in the United States, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.

Location

Donors must live locally in Washington State, near the Cascade Cryobank location in Lynnwood, close to Alderwood Mall. This ensures the donor’s ability to attend regular appointments.

Apply to Become a Sperm Donor

If you meet the above qualifications, you are welcome to apply. If we are interested, we will continue the process by reaching out and scheduling interviews. Here’s the process:

Step 1: Apply Online

Start by filling out the online interest questionnaire to determine eligibility. If you meet the initial requirements, a team member will contact you to discuss the process, answer any questions, and schedule your first appointment.

Step 2: Initial Appointments

Candidates undergo a thorough evaluation. This includes:

  • Interview: Discuss reasons for donating and review educational and professional history.
  • Semen Evaluation: An initial semen sample is tested to ensure it meets the standards for use in assisted reproductive therapy.
  • Initial Interview: If the results are good and you exhibit exceptional personal character, you’ll be invited for further clinical evaluations, including a physical exam and genetic screening.

Step 3: Admission to the Program

Once you pass all screening procedures, you’ll officially join the Cascade Cryobank donor program.

Step 4: Regular Donor

As a regular donor, you’ll donate 1–3 times per week, earning $100 per donation. With consistent participation, you can earn over $1,000 per month.

Step 5: “Retired” Donor

After completing the program, you’ll return six months after your last donation for a final infectious disease test. Additionally, annual health checkups are required for up to 20 years to verify your ongoing health. Compensation withheld during your donation period will be released upon completing this final test.
